Detailed 3 Days Mgahinga Uganda Gorilla Safari

Day 1: Kampala to Mgahinga Mountain Gorilla

After early morning breakfast, your guide driver will drive to your hotel in Kampala to pick you up. Here he will give you a brief about the whole trip before you depart for the long ride. You will head the road and head west of Uganda through Masaka Road to Mgahinga National Park. You will make a stopover at the equator and have some pictures for remembrance. You can also have a moment to experience the weight changes in both hemispheres.

You may opt to have a cup of coffee if you so wish. Drive through the Acacia woodland of Ankole and do not miss the famous long-horned Ankole cows. You also have a chance to ask your guide anything you sight just in case you need more explanation or clarification. You will have a stopover in Mbarara at any hotel en route to have lunch. Continue with your Safari through the terraced hills of Kabale. You will check in to your lodge, have some time to relax, and then an overnight

Day 2 of 3 Days Mgahinga Uganda Gorilla Safari: Gorilla Trekking

After breakfast in the morning, set off for Gorilla tracking on the three Volcanoes, (mt Sabinyo, mtMuhavura, mt Gahinga). As you trek expect to see Mountain Gorillas, especially the Nyakagezi Gorilla Group. Hike up to the top of the Volcanoes and view the whole Park. Return to the Lodge for dinner and overnight

Day 3 of 3 Days Mgahinga Uganda Gorilla Safari: Transfer Back to Kampala

After breakfast, check out. You will find your driver waiting for you. return to Kampala with a brief stop over on Lake Bunyonyi the second deepest lake in East Africa. Participate in boat riding, sightseeing, and taking photos. Hit the road with a lunch stop in Mbarara en route to Kampala. You will arrive in Kampala in the evening. If you are leaving this very day then you will have a transfer to Entebbe international airport to depart

We always advise our clients interested in Gorilla trekking to book Gorilla permits at least 3 months in advance to ensure that requested dates are available. This is so because of the high number of trekkers. Please note that the gorilla trekking can be done in Rwanda and Congo as well if permits can’t be got in Uganda at the time of booking. The trekking experience starts at 8:30 am local time and can take three to eight hours. The Gorilla trekking fee is $700 per person

Mgahinga National Park

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park sits high in the clouds, at an altitude of between 2,227 m and 4,127 m. as its name suggests, it was created to protect the rare mountain gorillas that inhabit its dense forest and is also an important habitat for the endangered golden Monkeys

As well as being important for wildlife, the park also has a huge cultural significance, in particular for the indigenous Batwa pygmies. This tribe of hunter-gatherers was the forest’s “first people”, and their ancient knowledge of its secrets remains unrivaled.

Mgahinga’s most striking features are its three conical, extinct Volcanoes, part of the spectacular Virunga Range that lies along the border region of Uganda, Congo, and Rwanda. Mgahinga forms part of the larger Virunga Conservation Area which includes adjacent parks in these countries. The volcanoes’ slopes contain various ecosystems and are biologically diverse, and their peaks provide a striking backdrop t this wonderful scenery.
